In 1983, the Church issued a brand new code of canon regulation. Contrary to its predecessor, the 1983 Code of Canon Legislation did not explicitly identify Masonic orders Amongst the secret societies it condemns. It states: "A one that joins an Affiliation which plots in opposition to the Church should be to be punished that has a just penalty; on
